Create an Animated Anime Live Wallpaper for Your Phone
Turn anime art into a phone-ready live wallpaper: pick a motion level, generate a seamless loop and set it on your Android phone or iPhone.
Os guias são escritos em inglês.
A static wallpaper is something you stop noticing after a week. A live wallpaper, where a character breathes, her hair moves, and petals drift across the screen, keeps being a small pleasure every time you wake your phone. With image-to-video it is also easy to make one from art you already own.
This guide covers how to create a live wallpaper with WaifuRush, how to choose a motion level, and, in general terms, how to put the result on an Android phone or an iPhone.
What the live wallpaper generator gives you
The Live wallpaper generator takes one start image and a motion level. It returns two things: the full generated video, and its best seamless loop. The loop is the piece you normally want for a wallpaper, because a wallpaper repeats indefinitely and a visible jump every few seconds would be distracting.
As with all WaifuRush modes, you do not write the model prompt. The site looks at your image and writes it for you. Your creative decisions are the image, the motion level, the resolution and the quality.
Choosing the motion level
Motion is the one setting unique to this mode. There are five levels, from almost still to extreme:
- Almost still: barely-there life, like breathing and the occasional blink. The safest choice for a lock screen you glance at all day.
- Gentle: slow, soft movement of hair, clothing and ambient elements.
- Medium: the default. Clearly alive, still calm enough for everyday use.
- Strong: pronounced movement and more energy.
- Extreme: the most dramatic motion. Fun for a showpiece, tiring as a screen you see fifty times a day.
Higher motion gives the model more opportunity to bend the character away from your original art, and it gives the loop more to reconcile at the seam. If you are unsure, start with gentle or medium and only go up if the result feels too static.
Picking the right art
Phones are tall, so the best source is a vertical illustration. The output follows the aspect ratio of your image, choosing the closest of 21:9, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4 and 9:16. For a modern phone, a 9:16 image is the natural fit, and a 3:4 image works too. A horizontal image will give you a horizontal video, which you would then crop or letterbox on your phone.
A few composition tips specific to wallpapers:
- Keep the focal point away from the clock area at the top and the dock or buttons at the bottom of the screen.
- Leave breathing room around the character. Icons will cover parts of the picture.
- Prefer images with soft ambient elements, such as petals, light rays or drifting particles, because they loop gracefully.
- Avoid text or logos in the art; they can warp as things move.
Have a vertical piece of art ready? Make it move.
Open the studioStep-by-step: generating the wallpaper
- Open the studio and choose the Live wallpaper generator.
- Add your start image (up to 25 MB).
- Choose a motion level. Medium is a good first try.
- Pick a resolution. 480p is the lighter option; 720p is sharper and is the one to choose for a final wallpaper that fills a phone screen.
- Pick a quality: Fast (turbo) for experiments, Standard when you want the best the model offers.
- Press Create. The job is prepared, waits for a GPU and then renders. If a GPU has to start from cold, it can take a few minutes before progress appears.
- When it finishes, review both outputs: the full clip and the seamless loop. Download the one you want.
If you are exploring, you can iterate cheaply at 480p and Fast, then re-render your favorite configuration at 720p.
Setting it on Android
Android phones differ a lot between manufacturers, so the exact menus vary. In general terms, you have these options:
- Some phones let you pick a video or a gallery item as a lock screen or home screen wallpaper directly from the wallpaper settings or from the Gallery app. Look for a "video wallpaper" or "live wallpaper" option.
- Others do not support video wallpapers out of the box. A video wallpaper app from your app store can play your MP4 on the home screen or lock screen.
- Some launchers include their own video wallpaper feature.
If your phone only accepts a muted loop, use the seamless loop output, which is made to repeat. Battery use depends on your device and how often the screen is on; if it matters to you, prefer the lower motion levels and test how it behaves over a day.
Setting it on iPhone
iOS does not offer a general setting for arbitrary MP4 video wallpapers. In general terms, the options are:
- Live Photos: iOS can use a Live Photo as a lock screen wallpaper, animating it when you press and hold. Converting a video into a Live Photo needs a third-party app from the App Store.
- A static fallback: use a frame of the video as a regular wallpaper, and keep the loop to share or view in the Photos app.
Apple changes these features between iOS versions, so check your current Settings under Wallpaper for what your phone supports today. If you are unsure, the safest outcome is to save the MP4 to your Photos library and try what your iOS version offers.
Troubleshooting
The wallpaper looks cropped
Your image was probably not close to your phone's proportions. Use a 9:16 or 3:4 source, and keep the important parts away from the edges.
I can see the loop restart
Use the seamless loop output rather than the full clip, and consider a lower motion level, since less movement means less to reconcile at the seam.
The character looks different from my art
Lower the motion level, use a cleaner source and try another seed. Strong motion levels give the model more freedom to deviate.
Sharing and privacy
Creations are published to the WaifuRush community by default; keeping one private requires a paid plan. If you are making a wallpaper from art you are not ready to show, check the plan details first.
