How to Turn Anime Art Into a Video (Image-to-Video Guide)
A step-by-step guide to animating anime art with image-to-video: choose a mode, prepare your image, pick settings and get a clean short clip.
Las guías están escritas en inglés.
You have a piece of anime art you love: a character illustration, a render from your own project, a commission. And you want to see it move. That is exactly what image-to-video does. You give the system one picture, and it produces a short clip in which the character breathes, blinks, shifts their weight, or moves through the scene while the art style stays intact.
This guide walks through the whole process in WaifuRush, from choosing the right mode to downloading the result. You do not need animation experience, and you do not need to write a long prompt.
What image-to-video actually does
A video model takes your image as the first frame (and, in some modes, the last one) and predicts a sequence of frames that continue naturally from it. It has learned how hair sways, how cloth folds and how a face turns from a huge amount of video, so it can invent plausible motion for a still picture. Your image decides the character, the colors, the line style and the composition. The model decides what moves, and how.
In WaifuRush you never write the full instruction for the model. When you submit an image, the site looks at it with a vision model and writes the detailed motion prompt for you. In some modes you can add a short idea of your own, such as "she turns around and waves", and the site builds on it. This is why the workflow stays simple: your job is mostly choosing a good image and a good mode.
Step 1: pick the mode that matches your goal
WaifuRush has four generation modes, and the right one depends on what you want to end up with.
- Nsfw video: one start image in, one seamless 5 second loop out. Best for a clip that repeats forever, like a profile animation or a social post.
- Nsfw video pro: a start image, an end image, or both, plus an optional idea. You choose a duration of 5, 8, 10 or 15 seconds. Best when you want a story beat with a beginning and an end.
- Nsfw director: continues an earlier video, either one of yours or a published community video, so you can build a longer scene piece by piece.
- Live wallpaper generator: one image plus a motion level, from almost still to extreme, for a phone wallpaper with a loop that is ready to use.
If you are not sure, start with the loop mode. It asks the least of you, finishes with a clip that always plays cleanly on repeat, and teaches you quickly how the model treats your art.

The single biggest factor in the result is the input picture. A few habits make a large difference:
- Use a clean, sharp image. Compression artifacts and blur get animated along with everything else.
- Keep the character fully readable. Faces, hands and silhouettes that are clear in the still are far more likely to stay clear in motion.
- Leave some room around the subject if you expect movement, such as hair blowing or an arm lifting.
- Check the file size. The studio accepts images up to 25 MB.
The output follows the aspect ratio of your image. WaifuRush renders in one of 21:9, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4 and 9:16 and picks the one closest to your picture, so a vertical illustration gives you a vertical video.

Each mode shows only the options that apply to it. The common ones are resolution and quality.
- Resolution: 480p is the lighter option and costs about 20% fewer credits. 720p is sharper and is the default.
- Quality: Fast (turbo) returns results quickly at a lower price. Standard takes more compute and costs more.
- Duration: in the pro mode, 5, 8, 10 or 15 seconds. Longer clips cost more and give the model more time to drift, so start short.
A sensible habit is to explore with Fast quality, find an image and settings you like, and then render the keeper at 720p. Our quality guide goes deeper on when each combination is worth it.
Step 4: add an idea (only where it helps)
In Nsfw video pro and Nsfw director you can type a short optional idea. Treat it as a hint about the action, not a full script. Good ideas are short, concrete and physical:
- She turns toward the camera and smiles.
- Wind lifts her hair and the ribbon.
- He raises the sword slowly.
Skip long descriptions of the character or the art style. The image already carries that, and the site's prompt writer has read it. If you leave the idea empty, the site still writes a complete prompt from your image alone.
Step 5: generate and read the result
Press Create. The studio first shows a short preparing phase while the site writes the prompt from your image; this is the only phase in which you can cancel. After that, the job waits for a GPU. When a GPU has to start from cold, that can take a few minutes, and during that time there is no percentage to show, so the studio tells you it is warming up. Once sampling begins, you will see progress.
If a job fails or you cancel it while it is still being prepared, your credits are refunded automatically. When the clip finishes, watch it a couple of times and ask three questions:
- Is the character still recognizably the same one? Faces and outfits should hold.
- Is the motion what you wanted? Too much, too little, or the wrong part?
- Are there visible glitches in hands, hair or the background?
If something is off, the Reuse settings action loads the same configuration so you can change one thing at a time. Locking the seed in Settings repeats a result you liked, which is useful when you only want to adjust the idea or the resolution.
Common problems and fixes
The character changes between the first and last frame
Try a shorter duration, a cleaner source image or a simpler idea. In the pro mode, giving an end image that matches the character well also keeps things anchored.
Nothing seems to move
Small subjects in a large scene get little motion. Crop closer to the character, or use the live wallpaper mode and raise the motion level.
The motion is too wild
Remove or shorten your idea, lower the motion level in the wallpaper mode, or use the loop mode, which keeps the motion restrained so the ending matches the beginning.
Publishing, downloading and privacy
Results are MP4 files you can download. By default, creations are published to the WaifuRush community feed. Keeping a creation private requires a paid plan; see the pricing page for the details.

Once your first clip works, the rest is refinement. Make a seamless loop for a profile or a post, turn the same art into a phone wallpaper, or control the beginning and end of a clip with two images. Each of those has its own guide in this section.
